Description

Fragile Frontlines is a critical investigation of the Hindu Kush Himalayas, a vital ecosystem supporting over two billion people. The region faces unprecedented climatic challenges from melting glaciers to shifting weather patterns, escalating risks for frontline communities.

The Atlas serves as a climate advocacy tool for a cryosphere in crisis, documenting cascading climate catastrophes to build a baseline model for fragility, vulnerability and risk, while compiling a nuanced evidence base for climate change attribution and assessment of Loss and Damage under the UNFCCC. Our multidimensional analysis integrates satellite data, in-situ analysis, earth observation foundational models and deep learning methods. A collaborative endeavor that transcends boundaries, embodying a unified approach to climate justice.

Launched on World Day for Glaciers at UNESCO in Paris, the Atlas calls for action as the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) becomes operational, laying the groundwork to tackle cryospheric challenges in the Third Pole.
